UTS's international reputation continues to grow, with the university recently retaining its five-star rating in the QS Stars University Ratings, and improving its rating to five stars in each category.
QS considers institutions it rates five stars as "world-class" in a range of areas, as well as having "internationally renowned research and teaching faculties".
The QS Stars University Ratings are published annually by higher education information consultant Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). The rating system evaluates an institution against more than 50 different indicators, and awards universities between one and five stars across eight categories, as well as an overall rating.
The eight categories include research, employability, teaching, facilities, internationalisation, innovation, access and specialisation.
As well as retaining an overall five star rating since 2011, UTS was also awarded five stars in all eight categories for the first time this year.
Professor Attila Brungs, Vice-Chancellor said, "UTS has continually improved its position in international rankings, and this latest rating reinforces our global reputation and rapid progress towards our vision to become a world-leading university of technology."
"The QS Stars rating offers students and the wider community a broader view of a university's qualities, and UTS recognises that these attributes all contribute to enhancing student experience."
"We have invested $1.1 billion to create a vibrant and world-class campus to support our unique approach to teaching and learning. Students are also encouraged to engage in international experiences, through our exchange and BUiLD programs, to enhance their graduate employability and world view. These are all important factors that improve university life for our students."
The university's rating for the research category has improved, from three stars in 2011 to five this year. This category takes into account research quality, productivity, citations and awards.
"UTS's reputation and track record for research quality and impact across a range of disciplines continues to grow," Professor Brungs said. "UTS now has a number of truly world-leading research clusters and the five star QS ranking reinforces the 2012 Excellence in Research for Australia evaluation, where UTS was one of eight Australia universities to be assessed as world class in all its broad areas of research."
"Research students continue to choose UTS for the opportunities to engage with world-class research teams and facilities, and explore issues of global importance which inspire and challenge the international research community," said Professor Brungs.
UTS Business School also received a five star rating in the QS Stars Business Schools rating. It's the first business school in Australia to be awarded five stars.
The new QS Stars Business Schools is a rating system providing an in-depth evaluation of business schools of more than 20 different key performance indicators. Each business school is evaluated in seven of the nine categories. The nine categories are facilities, internationalisation and diversity, teaching and student quality, employability, research, innovation and entrepreneurship, engagement, rankings and public evaluations, and program strength.
"Our business graduates are of an exceptional calibre and it's great to see the UTS Business School recognised at a world level," Professor Brungs said.
"It's also fitting that the Dr Chau Chak Wing Building, the only building in Australia designed by renowned architect Frank Gehry and a symbol of creativity and future education, will be the new headquarters for UTS Business School from 2015."
Professor Roy Green, Dean of UTS Business School said, "We are gratified by this recognition of quality and performance at this moment, as we transition to the new building.
"The move into the Dr Chau Chak Wing Building is a transformational one for the school and we will continue to build upon the foundations on which it was constructed – innovation and creativity, interdisciplinary collaboration and a more integrative approach to business education."
