One of Australia's leading infrastructure experts, architect David Holm, has been appointed an adjunct professor at the UTS School of Architecture. Holm is also a director at one of the largest architectural practices in the Asia-Pacific, Cox Architecture.
Holm's connection to UTS extends over several decades having worked as a design tutor after completing his undergraduate and master's degrees. In most recent years, he has taught master classes relating to Sydney's transport and airport issues, and in 2013 delivered a public lecture entitled, "Bigger & Better: The Growth of Sydney".
Cox Architecture's affiliation with UTS has further aligned after a new scholarship was introduced earlier this year. The scholarship rewards students who have demonstrated academic excellence and gives them the opportunity to gain insight into the day-to-day operation of the architectural profession. Third year Architecture student, Rebekah Collins, was awarded the inaugural scholarship prize.
"Designing and working with outstanding architects at Cox Architecture over the next six months will be a fantastic way to put the skills I have learnt at UTS into practice, and to expand my knowledge by working on a wide scope of projects in Sydney and around the world," said Ms Collins.
"Embracing every opportunity that has been offered to me through UTS, including travelling overseas for subjects, peer tutoring and the UTS Accomplish Award, has contributed to my success, opening the door to this incredible opportunity."
David Holm brings more than 25 years' experience working on major public projects to UTS's architecture curriculum. Working on projects such as Sydney's new Barangaroo Ferry Hub, Holm is primarily known for his contribution towards the transport and urban typologies, both locally and internationally.
"I'll be encouraging connections between the university and broader practice within Sydney, especially focused on the research of urban places and transportation," said Holm.
The 2011 Churchill Fellowship winner and author of two books, has taken on a lead role in the redevelopment and remodelling of many international airports including Singapore's Changi, Sydney's Kingsford Smith and Hong Kong's Chek Lap Kok International Airport. In September this year, Holm will travel to Dhaka in Bangladesh to host a Drawings Master Class.
