UTS celebrates a new beginning for its Kuring-gai campus

A milestone is approaching as the University of Technology Sydney prepares to leave its Kuring-gai campus at Lindfield ahead of the landmark complex being converted to an innovative new school.

UTS Vice-Chancellor Professor Attila Brungs has announced to the university community that plans are well underway for the relocation of remaining Kuring-gai staff to the UTS City campus in December. Continuing students will resume their studies on the City campus from semester one 2016.

"The Kuring-gai campus has a long history as a home to education – one that will continue," Professor Brungs said.

"During its time as a UTS campus over the past 25 years more than 40,000 students have graduated from degrees in education, nursing, business and law. Prior to joining the UTS fold in 1990, the campus was the home of the Kuring-gai College of Advanced Education (KCAE).

"And soon, following the relocation of staff from Kuring-gai at the end of the year, UTS will hand the campus over to the Department of Education which will develop the site into a much-needed educational facility."

Professor Brungs said the move was another important milestone for UTS, creating a single, unified campus in Sydney’s southern CBD for the first time in the university's history.

"The unification of our campus is a key aspect of our billion-dollar-plus City Campus Master Plan. We have created a revitalised, state-of-the-art, urban campus that offers all our staff and students exceptional learning and research facilities, and fosters connection, collaboration and creativity," Professor Brungs said.

"The transfer of learning and research activities from Kuring-gai to the city from semester one 2016 will enhance the vibrancy of the campus and the culture of the UTS community.

"I am certain that the formal welcoming of our colleagues and students from Kuring-gai to the city at the end of the year will only energise our campus further and enhance the student experience of all those at the City campus.

"We may be closing the doors to UTS Kuring-gai, but we will ensure that its spirit and legacy will continue to live on in the city for many years to come," Professor Brungs said.

A series of events for staff, students and alumni are being planned during October and November to mark the 25 years of achievement at UTS Kuring-gai.
