The University of Technology Sydney has once again improved its global rankings position in the QS World University Rankings from 264 to 218, a substantial lift of 46 places.

This is the third successive improvement for UTS in the QS annual ranking.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Attila Brungs said the result reflected the university's rapidly growing reputation for world-class research quality, the consistent impact of UTS across a wide range of discipline fields, and the increased sophistication of its international approach.

"UTS has a bold vision to be a world-leading university of technology and it's clear that our focus, hard work and investment over the past decade to further enhance innovative research and continue to focus on cutting edge teaching excellence is paying dividends," he said.

"Rankings are of course just one particular measure of performance; however they are useful as broad indicators in key areas of teaching and learning, research and outreach. More importantly, UTS will keep innovating and improving the quality of education and educational experience we offer and growing the impact of our research and engagement around the world.

"We are a young, cutting edge university, our staff, students, alumni and industry partners can be very proud of what we have achieved in our 27 year history. I have no doubt UTS will go from strength to strength as we pursue our vision and continue to build on our reputation for excellence and quality."

Professor Brungs also welcomed the strong performance of the Australian Technology Network (ATN) of Universities, of which UTS is a member. All ATN universities improved their ranking this year.

"It is also great to see such an impressive performance across the ATN universities – it is testament to the quality of universities across Australia," he said. "The rapid progress of such a young group bodes well for the future of higher education in Australia."

Earlier in 2015 UTS was named by Times Higher Education as number one in Australia and 21st in the world for universities under the age of 50.

In summary:
  • UTS has leapt 46 places in the latest QS World University Rankings, the university's third successive improvement
  • Vice-Chancellor Professor Attila Brungs welcomed not only the UTS result, but the strong performance of all Australian Technology Network universities, of which UTS is a member
