The latest world ranking of universities has reinforced UTS's recent strong showing in the most respected international measures of teaching and research performance.
The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2015-2016, released yesterday, have placed UTS in the 201-250 band among world universities – the ninth ranked Australian institution and the leading "young" university in the country.
This is the fourth successive improvement for UTS in the Times Higher Education world ranking and follows on from a substantial improvement in the recent QS rankings.
UTS Vice-Chancellor Professor Attila Brungs said the Times Higher Education results were further evidence of UTS's position as Australia's top young university.
"To be consistently ranked as Australia's top young university is really pleasing achievement," Professor Brungs said. "Our staff, students and alumni can be very proud of the quality, excellence and impact of our teaching and research.
"Rankings are just one particular measure of performance, but they are broad indicators of UTS's continued and rapid progress, which is testament to our hard work and investment over the years.
"What's more we are uniquely placed in Australia: our world-leading campus, innovative model of learning, growing research reputation and ongoing industry engagement will ensure that we will continue to build our reputation for excellence and quality.
"Our continued improvement is evidence that we are on the right track to becoming a world-leading university of technology, we will keep innovating to ensure we maintain this upward trajectory and achieve our vision."
Professor Brungs said that aside from UTS's improvement, the Australian higher education sector as a whole should be buoyed by the evidence of the depth and quality of Australian universities in the latest ranking.
"This is an excellent result for Australia, our universities are pivotal in driving innovation and shaping the graduates for the industries and jobs of the future, which is key to ongoing prosperity for all Australians. Consistent policy settings and adequate support are vital in enabling universities to continue to achieve this."
Australia was the seventh most represented country out of 70 surveyed by Times Higher Education, with 22 intuitions in the top 400.
