UTS ranks among the top 50 universities in the world in four subject areas, according to the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2016, released today.
These subject areas as defined by QS are Accounting & Finance, Art & Design, Law and Nursing.
In nursing's first year in the ranking, UTS Nursing has come in close to the top, being ranked 20th in the world and fourth in Australia. In Art & Design UTS is third in Australia and 31st in the world.
"Our impressive debut in the rankings is testament to the high quality education in nursing provided by UTS, as well as our dedication to producing work-ready graduates who have had access to state-of-the-art learning and teaching facilities, including clinical practice laboratories and simulations, and the guidance of industry experts during their program of study," said Professor John Daly, Dean of the Faculty of Health.
UTS Nursing has more than 100 clinical facilities across Sydney and NSW where students have the opportunity to complete a clinical placement.
UTS Vice-Chancellor Professor Attila Brungs said the university was becoming increasingly well-known globally for its innovative and practical approach to research, engagement and teaching across a number of subject areas.
"These rankings are simply further evidence of our growing international reputation for high-quality research and our industry-relevant approach to teaching and learning, supported by state of the art facilities and talented staff.
"We're proud to have once again evolved new innovative approaches to learning that produce the work-ready graduates of the future, capable of tackling tomorrow's complex problems, and collaborating with industry on research breakthroughs to benefit society and the global economy."
The rankings also placed UTS in the top 100 in the world in the subject categories of Business & Management Studies, Communication & Media Studies, Computer Science & Information Systems and Economics & Econometrics. In Engineering and Environmental Sciences UTS was not far behind with rankings in the Top 150.
Late last year UTS's reputation for being at the forefront of innovative teaching and learning was further recognised when it won the Hybrid Learning Innovation category of the 2015 Wharton-QS Stars Reimagine Education Awards in the United States.
UTS was also recently internationally recognised as Australia's best young university by both QS Top 50 Under 50 and Times Higher Education THE 100 Under 50 rankings for 2015 – an analysis of the world's top 50 and top 100 universities under 50 years of age respectively.
The QS World University Rankings are published annually by Quacquarelli Symonds, a British company specialising in education. QS rankings are among the most influential international university rankings and are based on a formula that combines academic reputation, employer reputation, citations and research impact.
