UTS's programs in China have been recognised in the 2016 AustCham Westpac Australia-China Business Awards, securing the Business Excellence Award for Education & Training.
The education and training award recognises an Australian or Chinese company that has performed with excellence and demonstrated commercial success in Greater China in the field of education and training over the past year.
"This award is testament to the more than two decades we have spent building education partnerships in China, and to the strength of our programs," UTS Business School Deputy Dean (International), Professor Tracy Taylor said. "The Australia-China relationship is a very important one to us and we are honoured to have been recognised with this award."
UTS engages in teaching, research and cultural exchanges in China.
The SILC Business School is a joint venture between UTS and Shanghai University (SHU), which offers Chinese students the opportunity to study the UTS Bachelor of Business in Shanghai. Students can choose to study part of their program in Sydney.
The joint venture also provides English training, cultural experiences, pathway programs and corporate training programs.
"There is huge potential for growth in the Education Sector in China" said Peter Arkell, Chairman of AustCham Shanghai. "UTS is leading the charge through their partnership with SILC here in Shanghai."
UTS will be expanding its programs in China with a new Finance major in the Bachelor of Business, and two new Masters programs.
The new Master of Finance will provide Chinese students with a Master's degree that will contribute to the growth and sustainability of Chinese financial markets. The new Master of Engineering Management – taught in Mandarin – is another innovation that fills a need for the corporate sector in China.
UTS academics will also be engaged at SILC from 2016 to collaborate in building new knowledge of value to both China and Australia.
To support these new programs and increases in student enrolments, UTS this year will establish an offshore department, headed by a Shanghai-based UTS senior academic director.
UTS's engagement with China and growing reputation as a leader in the field of Australia-China relations was consolidated in 2014 with the establishment of the Australia-China Relations Institute, headed by former Australian Foreign Affairs Minister, Professor Bob Carr.
The AustCham Westpac Australia-China Business Awards (ACBAs) have for 23 years been a means of recognising Australian and Chinese companies working between the two countries in the Greater China region. The Awards recognise the success of Australian and Chinese businesses in Greater China across a broad spectrum, from small entrepreneurs through to large publicly listed companies.
