UTS has for the first time been ranked among the top 200 universities globally by the QS World University Rankings.
In QS’ 2016/2017 ranking, released today, UTS has jumped to 193 in the world, up from 218 last year. The university has risen 91 places in the QS rankings over the past five years.
It is the first time in seven years that an Australian university, other than one of the older established Group of Eight institutions, has broken into the top 200. UTS is just 28 years old, less than half the age of the youngest Go8 institution.
As well as moving into the top 200, UTS is recognised as Australia’s best university under the age of 50 by both the QS and Times Higher Education rankings, and has been moving steadily up the Academic Ranking of World Universities.
UTS Vice-Chancellor Professor Attila Brungs said:
"All university ranking systems measure different things, and have strengths and weaknesses. But when a university like UTS moves up steadily in all rankings at the same time, it can only point to an overall improvement in our performance and an increase in our reputation internationally.
“UTS has been on an upward trajectory for a number of years, and it is all due to the hard work of many staff over an extended period of time. We are continuing to drive innovation in our approaches to teaching and learning and absolute excellence in our research and research impact, and it is paying off.”
