New UTS Business School dean to forward entrepreneurship and business links to STEM

Professor Chris Earley, currently the Dean of the Tasmanian School of Business and Economics at the University of Tasmania, has been appointed the next Dean of the UTS Business School at the University of Technology Sydney. He will start in this role at the end of October.

Prior to joining the University of Tasmania, Professor Earley held the James Brooke Henderson Chair in Management in the Krannert School of Management at Purdue University in the US, and was Dean of the Krannert School from 2011 to 2014.

He has also held positions as Dean at the University of Connecticut and at the National University of Singapore. In these roles he has led significant strategic and change initiatives, and has made major contributions to business education, research and engagement with external partners.

Professor Earley is an expert in organisational behaviour, with 10 books, 36 book chapters and over 50 peer reviewed journal papers to his name. He holds a PhD in industrial/organisational psychology and a MA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a BA from Knox College, Illinois.

Professor Earley's research and teaching focuses on the importance of cultural intelligence, a person's capability to adapt and work effectively across cultures in the workplace.  His work also focuses on the development and conduct of globally diverse teams and how companies can leverage such diversity to be more effective.

"With a vision for global perspectives on business and management, a commitment to innovation and entrepreneurship and a drive to strengthen relationships between business and the STEM disciplines, Chris is an ideal fit for UTS," said UTS Provost and Senior Vice-President Professor Andrew Parfitt.

"It is also a time to thank the current Dean of the UTS Business School, Professor Roy Green, who will be retiring at the end of October following two successful terms.

"Roy’s achievements over the past eight years are too numerous to name here, but in particular he has overseen an improvement in the external profile of the school, lifted its research performance, and improved its course offering and learning profile.

"I am confident Chris will continue the good work that Roy has started, given the critical role of the UTS Business School in the university's strategic goal of becoming a world-leading university of technology," Professor Andrew Parfitt said.
