The University of Technology Sydney has cemented its position among the world's top 250 universities in the 2018 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings announced overnight in London.
In the latest edition of the THE World University Rankings UTS is ranked 201-250 out of 1102 institutions worldwide – the first time the THE ranking has featured 1000 institutions. Within Australia UTS ranked joint 9th out of 35 institutions.
In AprilTimes Higher Education's 2017 Young University Rankings named UTS Australia's top university aged under 50 for the third time, with a global ranking of 15th in the world among "young" universities.
This was followed in June by a leap in the 2018 QS World University Rankings, which saw UTS rise to 176th globally. The university then placed 8th in the world in the QS Top 50 Under 50 Ranking and once again was top ranked in Australia.
UTS Vice-Chancellor Professor Attila Brungs said the THE World University Rankings were based on teaching, research, citations, international outlook and industry income, with international outlook being UTS's strongest "pillar" in the latest assessment.
"Given the growing number of excellent and improving universities included and massive investment in higher education by many governments across Asia and Europe, the UTS community can be justly proud of another strong performance in a year of ratings successes.
"As always it reflects the momentum built up over many years of hard work and dedication by UTS staff."
