The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Technology Sydney, Professor Attila Brungs, has agreed to take up a second term, which will see him continue to lead UTS until the end of 2024.

Making the announcement on behalf of the UTS Council, Chancellor Catherine Livingstone AO said Professor Brungs had done an outstanding job in leading and managing the university since commencing as UTS Vice-Chancellor in July 2014.

“The development of the 2019 - 2027 Strategic Plan demonstrates Attila’s deep understanding and commitment to UTS and the public purpose of universities in society more broadly.

“We are very supportive of his vision, leadership and ability to inspire the university community to work together collegially to create and achieve our ambitious goals.

“Under Attila’s leadership UTS has continued to grow, innovate and lead in areas of strategic priority, building on the achievements and momentum of his predecessors.

“Council is looking forward to working in partnership with Attila as we continue to further UTS’s successes and champion the importance of higher education as a national driver of innovation, productivity, equality and accessibility.”

Professor Brungs joined UTS in 2009 as Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research and succeeded Professor Ross Milbourne as Vice-Chancellor upon his retirement.

A Rhodes Scholar who earned his DPhil in Inorganic Chemistry at Oxford University, Professor Brungs has had a distinguished career spanning academia and industry, including senior positions at the CSIRO just prior to joining UTS.
